The medicinal thermal waters of Chachimbiro arise soon after an earthquake took place on August of 1868, they were known and used by the residents of the area, however the presence of medicinal waters is very well-known in the area from prehispanic times.

The thermal waters of Chachimbiro are of volcanic origin. The volcanic complex of Chachimbiro existed 10,000 years ago. The waters temperatures are between 30°C and 50°C, their chemical composition and characteristics locates it among the best in the Ecuador. The water of Chachimbiro contain presence of chlorides and sulfides of iron, copper, fluorine, bromine, iodine, among other that act as digestive and purgative regulator, stimulant of the cardiovascular system, diuretic and of the central nervous system stimulant.
