Photos from a green hell in a red mud world...
In the tropics, without a dry or cool place to store films, heat and humidity affected many of my negatives. Often light was a problem, film or equipment inadequate. These pictures will not win awards but will give you a good idea about alluvial gold or diamond mining. Some pictures, are in B/W, I was using any film I could find.
On the first trip to the jungle, at Kaburi Falls on Mazaruni River in Guyana, I lost, along with the boat and its content, a black back Nikon with a set of lenses. I rescued the thing... but full of rich, oxidizing black water... lenses like mini aquariums... just lacking gold fish inside. After, I used a trow away plastic cameras, so on following pages, don't look for the quality but the content.
